  • Remote Learning

    • Remote learning (classes delivered using online technologies) is a new format for many people, and one which is becoming increasingly popular. In order to get the most from your remote classes at RESNYS, we’ve put together the following guidelines.
    • Live, Synchronous Class Sessions
      • 1. Camera should be on. These are sessions that use video-meeting technology to meet at a specific day and time. Most certification programs are hours-based and governed by external credentialing agencies, and instructors must verify your identity and attendance. For any “live” synchronous class session, your device’s camera must be on. The instructor must be able to visually see you and verify your presence and participation.
      • 2. Screen name must match your identity. You must also have an identifying name associated with your login. For example, if you log into Zoom using an iPad or smartphone, your name may appear as a telephone number or “iPad.” Please rename yourself so that your name is visible.
      • 3. Participation: During class hours, you are expected to be fully present and actively participating. You should not be engaging in outside activities that might detract from your learning or distract your classmates. Some classes even require confidentiality and being in a private, distraction-free space is important for both you and your class community. To the extent possible, treat this time as if you were in an in-person class. Although you may be juggling family/other responsibilities and need to step away briefly, try to limit these interruptions and return to class in a timely manner.
      • 4. Respect for others. Lastly, you and your classmates are part of a learning community; treat one another with respect. Set an intention to help your colleagues reflect and grow. This becomes even more important when we are not in a traditional classroom where body language and tone come across more easily. The language you use will reflect your intent, so be conscious of your impact on others and strive to create a community of collaboration and trust.
    • Asynchronous Class Work
      • Some of the requirements of your class may be in the form of work you do independently and submit online. You may be asked to complete exercises, write short reflections, or even participate in an online discussion board. Completing these assignments on time will count towards meeting the learning outcomes for the course, and may even count towards some of your required learning time for certification. Pay attention to assignments the instructor gives in class, and keep a calendar or notebook where you can write down due-dates. As always, let your instructor know if you are having any problems completing or understanding assignments.
  • Course Cancellation Policy

    • Cancellations must be made 30 days or more prior to the scheduled in-person course start date to be eligible for a full refund.
    • Cancellations made less than 30 days and greater than 14 days prior to the in-person course start date are eligible for 75% refund. If another individual (such as one on a wait-list) takes the canceling student’s place, a full refund will be issued to the student after the replacement individual has registered.
    • Cancellations made 14 days or less prior to the in-person course start date will result in a loss of all fees paid. If another individual (such as one on a wait-list) takes the canceling student’s place, a 75% refund will be issued to the student after the replacement individual has registered.
    • Courses canceled by the RESNYS will be refunded in full. RESNYS reserves the right to cancel courses at any time due to insufficient enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances.
  • Registration & Attendance Policy

    • At time of registration, all students must receive approval for their intended course of studies from the RESNYS Director. In addition, students wishing to enroll in courses through RESNYS’s third party providers must obtain approval from that provider’s registration entity. Registration is not considered official until a student is approved by his or her program and has registered with RESNYS.
    • According to RESNYS regulations, each person whose registration has been completed will be considered a student of RESNYS during the course for which he or she is registered unless the student’s connection with RESNYS is officially severed by withdrawal or otherwise.
    • The privileges of RESNYS are not available to any student until he or she has completed registration. A student who is not officially registered for a RESNYS course may not attend the course unless granted auditing privileges. No student may register after the stated period unless he or she obtains written consent of the corresponding director.
    • Once a student begins a course, that student is expected to attend the full amount of time required by state licensing authorities or by the program qualifications to successfully complete that course. If at any time a student cannot attend a class, then that class must be scheduled for a make-up. All make-up classes must be registered at least 48 hours in advance of that make-up class. Course completion will not be granted until RESNYS or their third-party provider can confirm full attendance of that course.
    • Attendance during live courses both in-person and online will be taken promptly when class begins. You will have a 5-minute grace-period then you will be marked absent and will have to retake that class. Attendance during self-paced courses will automatically be calculated by the time unit built into the courses.
